Cold. Snow. Ice.
Yes, it's another sunny day in Saskatchewan! Kids need hot chocolate, adults need car starters, and your sidewalk? Needs some shovelling.
So you ask, whats the best way to keep your walks ice-free this winter? How do you protect your noggin' so all you have to worry about is your depleting carton of egg nog?
As always the Expert is here for you.
Slaying Slippery Sidewalks:
1. Get the right tools for the job. The best shovels to use have a small blade and an ergonomic handle with a slight curve.
2. Take a stretch before you go outside. If you want to be warm, warm-up!
3. Push the snow as you shovel. It's easier on the back than lifting it out of the way.
4. If snow is sticking to your shovel blade, spray it with cooking oil.
5. The sooner you move the snow, the less chance it will have to pack down and create ice.
6. When using Magic Melt on problem icy areas:
a) Use a shaker! It 'll do a much better job of dispersing the granules than pouring it straight on. It'll save you money, and do a better job.
b) Apply the granules in small dosages. It takes time for the product to have it's full effect. Use a little bit and then come back. You may be surprised.
c) You can stop the ice before it forms! In problem spots leave some Magic Melt for next time, so there isn't a next time.
Keep warm out there! Happy Movember! And here are some links to keep busy until next time.
